Four Key Cloud Management Considerations
By Bill Kleyman

“Today, we take a pause and look at the overall cloud landscape. We see a giant mess of interconnected data centers and resources all working hard to deliver rich content, user workloads, and vast amounts of information. Cloud adoption has allowed many to create new solutions and go-to-market strategies. Through a variety of services and deployment models – cloud computing has become a standard for agility, and supporting an ever-evolving user.

Still, for many organizations out there, controlling the cloud is somewhat of a challenge. It’s not even just the management side of things; there are just so many cloud services out there that it becomes confusing to understand the right use-case for a certain kind of offering. With that in mind, below are four insights into cloud management considerations which will help you see the bigger, cloud, picture.”

Google releases a cloud manager ready for the enterprise

By Joab Jackson

“Now enterprise administrators can catch a bit of the magic that Google seemingly uses to smoothly run large Web scale applications. The company has released a production-ready version its Kubernetes software that manages virtual containers.

Kubernetes could be a cornerstone in an emerging approach to systems design, called micro-services, in which applications are broken into multiple components and packaged in virtual containers so they can be easily moved around or duplicated to handle heavy workloads.”

How MDM Can Ease IT Pain

By Albert Qian

“It’s the summertime and half of your office is out on vacation or taking advantage of the beautiful weather to work outside. The other half has brought their personal smartphones or tablets to work on too. Though it’s quieter at the office, you want everyone to continue hitting business goals while still being able to use their own devices.

Whether your business is ready or not, a transformation in the workforce is coming. IT research firm IDC predicts the number of mobile workers in the United States will rise to 105.4 million individuals by 2020. As a result, companies will adopt mobile device management (MDM) policies to let employees work whenever, wherever.”

Google Cloud Platform heats up battle with Amazon as Nearline goes public
By Rachel King

“Google Cloud Platform is pushing its low-cost storage service Nearline from beta into general availability.

Nearline was first unveiled in March as a polar opposite alternative to tiered storage. Google’s new storage option promised virtually immediate access to stored data within seconds versus hours typical of online and offline storage infrastructures.”

Windows 10: What to expect on July 29
Jared Newman and Brad Chacos

“With the launch of Windows 10 less than a week away, here’s what you can expect to find when the operating system launches on July 29. It’s not quite as simple as “Windows 10 will be available that day.”

Windows Insiders (read: Windows 10 preview testers) will get first dibs when Windows 10 launches on July 29, while everyone else will see a staggered roll out over the following days. In other words, if you haven’t yet “reserved” your free upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, now would be the time to do so. Microsoft recently began offering reservations through a pop-up message in the Windows notification center.”
